The fall of the Mauryan Empire is a short yet not-so-sweet decline.
Nearing the older ages of Asoka's life, the Mauryan Empire was already in steep decline. Their economy was failing, they weren't trading as rapidly as was needed, and as such, could simply not pay for the soldiers they had and needed to defend from constant attacks. Not only that, but they had no leader lined up for after Asoka's demise.
After he died from unknown causes, the Mauryan Empire fell beneath their crumbling economy and lack of preparation. The Mauryan Empire fell around 185 BCE.
